LTAR Accessory Prototypes UPDATE

We're continuing to develop these parts designed for external hardware upgrades for the Lazer Tag Augmented Reality (LTAR) blaster.  Today's latest installment is designed to replace the iOS Cradle attachment points to mount a weaver rail and N-Strike Removable Stock.  Most of these larger prototypes are designed with a "skeletal" look to them to keep costs down.  To test how they fit in the real world, the dimensions are kept the same, but since there's less plastic being used, they are cheaper to have printed.

This particular one has a few "upgrades" from previous versions.  The Weaver rail is a solid addition but there's also an extra harness point on the design at the back where it would screw into the existing Battery Tray Door for added stability.  On previous designs, the piece would lift up from the connection points under stress from the shoulder stock when it was in use.  As such, the anchor point over the battery door will prevent that issue from coming up.  The measurements for this feature weren't QUITE right, so we'll be adjusting the design appropriately.  That's what these test units are for!

    Did Xalien manually drill the pilot hole for the screw which can be added to the main piece under the weaver rail for stability? It can be seen on the 3D model when viewed from below.

    I see you decided against the screw in the stock connector typically on nerf models. How is the two piece pull tab when removing it?

    Do you feel the two piece horizontal clip design under the weaver rail attaches securely or would you go with the more permanent solid base design that the iphone holder uses?

    That looks so great in black! Brilliant concept! The battery latch screw hole makes sense seeing it on the tagger. If I had no patients I would buy one slap on some Liquid Nails x3 adhesive to fill the holes and use the frame right now. LOL.

    Which stock are you planning on using? There are so many choices:
    Nerf Super Soaker Lightning Storm, Retaliator Stock Adapter, etc. I kind of like the Stockade because it would be a little longer. This is my favorite blog EVER. The fact that no duct tape was used when making this attachment is the best part.

  2. Please tell me that the final version will have some cosmetic similarities to the stock tagger, and not just be a wire frame item. I realize that it would increase the time per piece and the cost, but I think that would make it more solid than just gluing on some cover panels.

    1. I suppose I wasn't clear, but the reason they're skeletal is because they're simply Prototypes. No use spending money on all that plastic only for it not to be the final product. The finalized design will be filled in.

  3. Will the 3D model files for this be available when it is complete?

    1. I've been talking to Xalien at shapeways about having this 3d file availabe so I could combine and modify this and the other design in 3ds max and he says he will upload when he/she has time. When I compared prices in Idaho shapeways.com had way better prices. 2 of the files can be printer at cost so I'm sure Bazookafied will let us know when its up to his standards.

  4. This is awesome, I've been working with my 3D printer trying to design a Nerf Gun myself (going to use a flywheel system cause that's easiest) What sort of printer did you use to make this?
