The Flywheel Debate: Organizing Info

There's so many angles to look at this that, after an outpouring of input from the community (which is awesome), I think I'll need a little more time to really dig into this to get a clear picture of the advantages and disadvantages of using Flywheel-driven blasters.

One thing is certain, as with any blaster: if it doesn't work with your playstyle, it's tough to be a fan of this blaster.  Choosing the right Nerf blaster has never been about "Hey, what's THE BEST one I can get?" because there is no clear-cut winner.  So while you're all enjoying your weekend, I'll be attempting to put together a clear report that will reflect every angle that has been brought to my attention when it comes to these Flywheel Blasters.  THANK YOU everyone for your outstanding support!  If you still haven't chimed in on this, check out this topic.

Long story short:  I got a LOT of info!  Gimme a day or two to get it all organized into a detailed report!

  1. i swear with all the talk of flywheels has everyone forgotten the STAMPEDE ECS
    Direct plunger
    Automatic
    Clip removable at all times
Dual wieldable (Try it you feel like a tank)

    1. I certainly haven't. The Stampede ECS is a rifle, and a heavier one at that. Not nearly as ideal for dual wielding, as the smaller and more lightweight flywheel blasters are more agile and better suited for this. I've also been generally disappointed with the level of work to get the Stampede up to the performance level I would like it to be. It's too weak of a blaster out of the box IMHO.

Sure you feel like a bad@$$ dual wielding Stampedes, but there's too many Pros with the Flywheel blasters if dual wielding is your goal.

    2. Stampedes are a bit easier to dual-wield than Vulcans but a bit less satisfying because they're not belt-fed... You think a Stampede is heavy one-handed, try holding a Vulcan that way.

    3. Talk about front-heavy! I can't imagine dual wielding Vulcans being comfortable in the long run... or the short run! lol

    4. Hmmmm, what if someone made a bull-pup vulcan?

    5. Going with bazook, the Stampede takes too much work to compare with a flywheel blaster out of the box. Never mind being a non-Elite blaster, the stock ROF is too much to work with and the blaster is clunky and noisy when you're shooting it.

And it still takes how many D batteries to power one?

ECS automates the reliable priming process, and there's no spool up time like there would be with a FW toy, but the Stampede's ECS was too complicated and inefficient.

    6. the stampede isnosiy?

sure only when you fire it u don't have to rev it and create more noise that"ll give u away before u even get ur first shot

    7. for my vulcans i did a simple exterior mod with bike breakes, i took two bike break systems and attached them so that the "new trigers" were on the front upper handle, then put straps on the back section over the battery case, yeah, two arm mounted vulcans, and i made some custom 5 round belts with a larger dual storage for the input and output.

  2. you need a strap to dual them i tried it but it felt like the handles would break off !! :( and outdoors a Vulcan isn't a match for an elite gun :( but indoors its the weapon of choice

    1. stampede same RoF and quicker reloads with potentially more ammo unmodded easier to carry
