The Firefly Tech Clip goes to Buster! Need a Shield?

Buster has won the Firefly Tech Clip from last week's giveaway!  I was kinda surprised to see a new face win so quickly, but hey!  That's the beauty of the good ol-fashioned random selection for this!  As a plug, if you're a Lego fan, I would check out his Flickr photostream.  I'm a bit of a Lego fan myself, so it was fun to go through and see what he had cooked up!

Anywho, here's the question for this week.  Recently, there have been a lot of accessories made for the N-Strike Rail that protect the user.  Shields have been making their way onto blasters in many shapes and sizes.  Whether it's the LightningStorm's transparent shield or maybe even those unconfirmed ones spotted on the Nitron and Rampage, what's your take on this protective accessory?  Do you like 'em?  Do you think they'll make more?  Heck, there are even some groups that don't allow the shield to be used, so there MUST be an opinion about their use out there!

Which brings us to the Giveaway Prize for this week: The Shield that started it all!  Up for grabs, at random selection, for the week of March 9th-15th, I'm giving away a Nerf Stampede ECS Shield!  Just answer that question as a comment on this pa-  well, who am I kidding.  If you don't know what's going on yet, then you just need to check out the Weekly Giveaway! Page.  I mean, seriously!  We're on week #16 of this, so this isn't complicated anymore.

  1. I personally think that they are a waste. Although it could seem like a cool attachment, it is not like it will protect you from much. It is just extra weight on the gun that you dont need and stops mobility.

  2. They never hurt to have on your blaster!
I don't always use it, But they are fun.

Keep an eye out for my new shield! it's going to look kinda like this.

  3. Shields are great, especially for indoor games. If you're snapping out from around a wall, you can conceal most of your profile with a shield attachment.

  4. I dig them, personally. They prove quite useful when used in our play group's combat system. I am thrilled at the prospect of more of them, both because I enjoy attachments in general and due to the limited number of blasters that can be practically accommodated by the original Stampede design.

  5. Although I've never had one, I personally think they could be useful. Especially on a blaster you can prop down on a piece of cover and just have your head sticking up behind the shield. You could totally block all incoming fire whilst laying down a base of fire.

  6. I'm not a fan... They make it harder to aim and take up a lot of space..... Is this the stampede shield from the stampede I sold you?

    1. I've got more than one. It might be, or it might be one that I already had before. What's it matter?

    2. I have no shield, but iv'e blocked incoming darts with the barrel of my gun before. (You call it luck, I'll call it skill.) So if you were focusing on it, I think blocking incoming potshots would be a cinch. Not to mention it makes your gun look like something out of a S.W.A.T. movie.

  7. My words are carefully censored because for all of my practice, and skill I've had a few friends own on the battlefield because of these little buggers. One of the most key abilities in Nerf wars, especially dart tag, is the ability to dodge rounds, or for that matter to deflect rounds with your weapon. In my personal experience though, this particular form of shield will often hamper ones abilities on the field of combat counter to any bonuses it may yield. (It also, often, gives its bearer a false sense of protection.)

  8. I like them. They cover my face where others aim at.

  9. I agree with Jon-Marc (even though I only understood the last sentence) and Peter Torres. In theory they are great, but in practice, they are bulky and get in the way.

  10. Honestly I don't see the point of the shield. It obscures your view, and is so small that it seems like it would offer zero protection from a nerf dart traveling at any respectable speed. You might be able to block a vortex disc with it, but still I don't see the point other than looking cool.

  11. I think they are cool but nothing special.

  12. I personally love the shields. I know they don't really have practical use, but aesthetically I like the way they look. I'd love to have some extra shields lying around to just put on random blasters for appearance purposes.

  13. Honestly, I don't really have an opinion on shields. But probably because I don't have any and haven't really messed with 'em.

I will say this though: This, right here, is a great application for the shield. http://girlygamer.com.au/2011/11/nerf-scout-zelda-gun-and-shield-mod/

  14. Now if the shield was more like the one on American Gladiators in the Assault course (See pic) Then I think they would be used more if it was MORE practical. Like a place to hold some extra clips. That picture shows balls going through the top shield part, and going into the blaster. If it was made like that. Think of the 18 or 15 Drum clips made into the shield it would be better, and more people would use them.

  15. I find the shield quite useful. When I fight with my family somehow the blasters get shot up the most, I once had a streamline go straight down the barrel of my Alpha Trooper. So having a big old shield there to protect me helps quite a bit. It also fits on the Furyfire, my blaster of choice for around the house use.

  16. I just use the shied for looks, no real purpose for it other than that.

  17. you can see through that one better, though. I could use that
